Creating a Safe Sleep Environment for Your Baby
Every sleep your baby has should be a safe sleep.
These things are not safe to have on your baby or in their bed when going to sleep:
- Pillows and cushions
- Toys
- Loose blankets, sheets or covers or other loose bedding
- Cot bumper pads
- Necklaces, such as teething beads
- Clothes with loose ties, ribbons or threads
Ensure your baby’s bed is kept away from these things:
- Items with strings or ties, such as mobiles, blind cords, curtains, pictures or wall hangings
- Power points
- Heaters
- Pets
- Other children
Your baby’s room should be:
- Well-ventilated, with the door open.
- Warm but not hot. If you need to use a heater, an electric heater with a thermostat is the safest option.
