How to Do Pelvic Floor Exercises
Whether you had a vaginal birth or a C-section, you should be doing your pelvic floor exercises regularly – it is ideal to do them daily – as soon as you can after birth.
Many people have a weakened pelvic floor following pregnancy and/or childbirth and the most effective way to regain strength and tone is by doing your pelvic floor exercises. They can be done while sitting down – you can even be watching TV or feeding your baby.
How to:
- Start by squeezing and holding your pelvic floor for five seconds – imagine stopping the flow of urine, trying to hold in wind, and holding a tampon in.
- Keep breathing normally while doing the exercises.
- Relax completely for five seconds in between.
- Repeat for five sets.
- Do this 2-3 times per day.
