Your Pregnancy: Week 31

Woman holds hands in heart shape on pregnant belly

Your baby won’t get much taller now.

The average baby weighs around 1.5kg by now – they won’t get too much taller but they should continue to gain plenty of weight in preparation for birth. Their fingernails and toenails have grown to full length, and their skin is less red and wrinkled as they become more filled out.

Your breasts may feel even larger and start leaking colostrum (the first form of milk) if you haven’t already. Some pregnant people never leak, so there’s no need to worry if you don’t.

If you’re feeling especially breathless, the baby is likely still sitting quite high in your abdomen which is putting pressure on your lungs. By week 35, they should start to drop into your pelvis in preparation for birth which should give you some relief.
