Dunk It For Plunket

Whānau Āwhina Plunket has been helping tamariki and whānau across New Zealand for over 100 years, and now they need our help. This August, the Dunk It For Plunket nationwide campaign is back.

When you get together for morning tea with your coffee group, friends or whānau you’ll be raising funds to help Whānau Āwhina Plunket better deliver its eight health & wellness checks for families with 0-5 year olds. Getting things right in the first 1,000 days of a child’s life ensures better outcomes for our tamariki.

If you’re not familiar with Dunk It For Plunket, it’s a piece of cake (or biscuit) – Dunk it for Plunket, is a nationwide campaign with a focus on asking Kiwis to host a morning tea to help raise money for Plunket.

To make things super simple, those who sign up will receive a free host kit full of yummy Arnott’s biscuits; Bell Tea and Moccona Coffee for guests to enjoy, and once you’ve registered, you’ll have access to a personalised fundraising page that you can share with guests via email or social media.

Dunk it for Plunket funds will go directly towards providing Plunket nurses with upgraded technology so they can better service families all over New Zealand. From desk monitors and headsets to laptops, this equipment is vital for frontline staff who update the electronic personal health records of Plunket babies after each visit.

Up until 2016, Plunket nurses recorded everything using pen and paper. Now the process is more efficient with mothers able to receive virtual breastfeeding support; consultations and undertake online learning. In 2020 when the Pandemic hit, Plunketline moved to laptops to continue delivering support, and Zoom sessions meant parents were able to keep up their regular consultations. It’s now time for this technology to be upgraded and Whānau Āwhina Plunket needs to raise over $500,000 to do this.
