All About Postpartum Night Sweats
If you’ve woken in the night, drenched in sweat and surrounded by soaked bedding, you’ll be all too familiar with the unfortunate but common complaint of night sweats.
Night sweats are normal for a māmā to experience in the days and weeks postpartum as your body goes through a series of hormonal shifts after your baby is born. If you had an IV drip during your labour, they may be especially prevalent. If they are putting a damper on your sleep, know that postnatal perspiration is normal but this will eventually ease in time, but if they don’t improve, see your GP or let your LMC know as they can be a sign of other health conditions.
- Be sure to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, especially if you’re breastfeeding.
- Wear clothing and pyjamas made from natural fibres such as cotton or merino.
- You might like to put a towel down on your bed and pillow to save you from changing the sheets every day.
