Your Newborn: Baby Acne

If you’re wondering why your baby has spots on their face, read on.

WHAT IS BABY ACNE?

At around 3-6 weeks old, some babies get little pimple-like spots on their face, head and chin – some also develop it on the back of their neck and shoulders. It’s called baby acne because they appear to be just like that. These spots are thought to be caused by hormonal changes after birth and are different to milia, or milk spots.

WHAT CAUSES IT?

They’re caused by hormonal changes after birth and it’s a very normal occurrence.

DO I NEED TO TREAT MY BABY’S ACNE?

No, you don’t need to apply any creams or treatment as they should clear up on their own within a few months. Refrain from picking, scratching or trying to pop your baby’s spots as this could damage their skin and cause scarring.
